Legislation
Workplace health and safety and occupational health are important features of any considered approach to managing workplace health and wellbeing. In Ireland, there is a well-developed legislative base for health and safety that has been developed on the basis of collaboration with the European Commission. The Health and Safety Authority provides a comprehensive overview of current and forthcoming health and safety legislation (http://www.hsa.ie/eng/Legislation/), while the Health and Safety Review (https://www.healthandsafetyreview.ie/) provides an up-to-date commentary on developments in the area.
However, health and safety is not the only area of relevant legislation for workplace health and wellbeing. Legislation in the area of sickness benefits (http://www.welfare.ie) and equality (https://www.ihrec.ie) are also relevant.
Public Health Ireland in conjunction with Healthy Ireland has just published a review of all legislative instruments in Ireland that have relevant to health in the workplace including both health and safety and other sources of legislation. It can be found at https://www.publichealth.ie/healthy-workplaces.
